Many Christians can remember when they first heard the rumour that Bob Dylan had become a Christian. There was rejoicing all of Christendom, yet the inherently reclusive Dylan gave very little inkling as to what had actually happened in his life, preferring to speak only through his song writing. Still, many of us rushed out and bought Slow Train coming eagerly and we were not disappointed!
Inspired by a performance he saw a Parachute Festival in New Zealand in Jan 2007, long time Dylan fan Guyrel Ali (pronounced GOO REE AL) felt he should put together a band and record the Gospel songs of Bob Dylan. This CD is the result.
Says Guyrel, Bob Dylan's songs are loved so much by many. They stand today, like a monument for truth and mercy. Masterfully crafted, poignant and melodic. The Gospel songs, however troubling, are equally inspired; a lamp in the dark to light the way. Here is a collection of these timeless songs; there are many others. It's such a thrill to present them for those, who like me, found them to be a 'shelter in the storm,' and also for those who are just discovering these wonderful pearls of great price. What a glorious Treasure!
Guryel has put together a band of great Christian musicians and singers, which includes Rod Gear, one of the founding members of Sons of Korah.
